In Photos: The Taliban’s Attack on Ghazni City

August 16, 2018

In the early morning hours of August 10, 2018, hundreds of Taliban fighters stormed the strategic city of Ghazni in eastern Afghanistan, overwhelming government forces and occupying the provincial capital. After several days of intense fighting, the militants were eventually ousted from Ghazni by Afghan and US-led coalition forces. However, the city suffered widespread damage and hundreds of casualties as a result of the brutal assault.
